For more than 20 years, James Dondero has served as Highland Capital Management’s president and co-founder. Under his leadership, along with co-founder Mark Okada, Highland became an early pioneer of the syndicated bank loan asset class and collateralized loan obligations (CLOs). The company’s investments have spanned a diverse spectrum that range from publicly traded large capitalization companies to small, privately held firms and distressed entities in need of repositioning.

Jim Dondero’s experience before Highland includes raising and managing $2 billion in assets for a GIC subsidiary of Pacific Life from 1985 to 1989. Jim Dondero was also responsible for managing $1 billion in fixed income funds for American Express from 1985 to 1989.

James Dondero also actively serves on several Boards of Directors, including MGM Studios and American Banknote. Additionally, he is Chairman of the Board for NexBank, Cornerstone Healthcare and CCS Medical Corporation.

Jim Dondero is a Beta Gamma Sigma graduate of the University of Virginia with concentrations in Accounting and Finance. James Dondero currently holds the designation of Certified Management Accountant and has been a Chartered Financial Analyst since 1987.

Highland’s experienced team of nine healthcare industry investment specialists is led by Michael Gregory, a recognized expert in healthcare policy. A graduate of the Yale School of Management’s highly specialized joint program in healthcare within the Yale School of Medicine, Management and Public Health, Gregory began investing in the healthcare sector in the 1990s.

Gregory’s team of healthcare experts includes specialists in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and other healthcare sub-sectors with an average of 12 years of healthcare investment experience. Six of these professionals are restructuring specialists that work closely with management teams of healthcare companies and, in many cases, hold a board seat on these companies.
